challenge your dream

In the back stage, you will never expect C-Choir members to be grumpy or scared. We are adjusted to the pressure of preparing for an excellent performance. When you take a peek at the back stage, you can always see girls smiling, boys chatting, some girls closing their eyes, looks like they are sleeping, but they are actually resting their eyes. It’s a busy back stage, but a controlled one.

“My goodness, how do the India women tie and make this twenty-yards of fabric into a skirt?”

“Here, let me help you with this. Hold my water bottle, please”

Sara held the end of the fabric, and asked me to turn around. She made a knot on the part tied to my hips. It felt tied, it looked tied, but I’m not sure whether it will stay tied for three hours. Sara made me turn around a few more times, and she kept checking the knots. As the last touch, she put some pins to hold it together.

In a hurry, Kelly came into the dressing room. In her hands, I saw beautiful India jewelry, a whole set. She was grasping for breath, but still smiling.

“Are you done with the skirt? I need to put all these accessories on you.”

“They are beautiful. I would love to be able to wear them all every day. Go ahead”

“Well, sit down here. I’m afraid you might want to reconsider having it all day, once

you try them out. These are ear rings, and this big one should be hanging in the middle of your hairline and fall down your forehead.”

“Ouch, the hair pin hurts a little. Would you please rearrange it?”

“I’m sorry. I need to tie this big one strongly to your upper hair because it is heavy and it

is supposed to sway on your forehead. Please tell me if it hurts again. Otherwise, you’ll have a headache.”

“It’s ok now. They are beautiful. They are sparkling and beautiful. Now I look like an

India bride. Where’s my groom?”

“He is dressing up too. I’m sure you both will perform Kuch Kuch Hotta Hai very well. I saw your

rehearsal last night. You sounded like a real India singer. I am so proud of you.”

“ Daniel and I will do our best for this concert. We always remember C-Choir motto, one

for all and all for one.”

Kelly had completed her project with me. She moved on to the other cast of the musical concert. The children were ready with their animal costume. Celine was so cute with her bunny costume that was one size smaller. She looked chubby and even cuter. Luke scared people who pass by the alley with his lion costume. He seemed to have so much fun, which will put him into a good mood for the song Hakuna Matata, that he will be dancing to. The song will be performed by Darren, Daniel and Matt, and the children will play along as the happy and content animals. The children loved the cute costumes. I think the audience will agree with me that the children look so cute.

We all came to the practice early that night, because that’s the only time that we could meet and discuss our long term goals. After all the chit-chat, and on my second glass of cappuccino, I mentioned the idea of having a concert, as a way to grow big and gain recognition. All eyes started staring at me. A minute passed while they thought about my idea. I smiled and I allowed them to think. This was a big and a long term decision we were discussing.

“I think it’s about time. C-Choir needs to take some bigger responsibilities than weddings, one song in Charity Events and Christmas entertainment in hotels. After two years of intense performances in Jakarta and Bali, the timing and maturity of this group is perfect for a concert, an amazing Charity-Choir concert.”

“Do we have enough people?”

“We recruit and we train more people.”

“How are we going to get money, to rent the auditorium hall, with a good sound system,

lighting, costume, etc”

“We will make small concerts, in hotels and cafés. We will go to companies and ask for their employees

to buy tickets and if possible have them pay in advance. We have a great marketing team. We just never push their buttons for the maximum effort. This is the perfect time to push the buttons.”

“Who is going to train us? Who is going to write the script?”

“That’s what we will try to discuss tonight. Let’s discuss the big picture. Let’s create some

committees. Then each committee can work on their own planning and strategy, and we can meet again, two weeks from today. But before we get started, I have some big questions for each one of us, including myself. Do you believe that C-Choir is a mission from God to join our hearts together for a glorious purpose of charity? Do you want more from this group or are you satisfied with these recent achievements and only these achievements? Are we ready for a mature group? Do you see C-Choir as an established group five years from now? Would you be willing to do more, work extra hard, think extra smart for this charity mission and vision? We need to be able to say yes to all those questions, before we move forward to talking about making committees. Let’s be silent for one minute. Everyone should think about this and the effect on everyone’s life.”

That was the longest minute of my entire life. I founded C-Choir. I believed in its mission and vision with all my heart. I believed in the power of teamwork with all C-Choir members. There was no project in C-Choir that had no difficulties and challenges. Yet as a group, C-Choir always strived through successfully.

I have always seen the way God was working through C-Choir. We had done a lot for the community. We had donated all our income from charity projects to various orphanage houses. We had been a blessing to the needy through this ministry, and yet we were the ones who received even more blessings in each of our individual lives. All my friends at this round table, who enjoyed their silent time to ponder, they were all great singers and successful in their professional lives. They had been committed for the last two years of charity projects, without any payment. I really wanted all my friends, the leaders of C-Choir, to understand the need for C-Choir and the fact that we can always be successful with charity projects because we had such an enormous synergy, like our motto, one for all and all for one.

“I can see that you are all smiling with dreams and excitement, but I will not make any

assumption. You have to speak up for yourself. Darren, as music leader, do you have anything to say?”

“I am excited. I totally agree with everything you said. I think, by the smiles on all your faces, I

can be brave enough to speak for all of us, that we are challenged, that we dream, and now we are ready to challenge our dream. Let’s talk about the committees. Carrie, as leader of the members, what’s your strategy to handle the resources challenge for this charity concert?”

“First of all, I think we can do additional recruitment. I strongly believe in the mission and vision of C-Choir. I can see C-Choir will have a second and a third concert, not just this one that we are preparing right now.”

That’s exactly the response that I wanted to hear. I need to hear directly from them. That they believed in C-Choir. They needed to help to convince themselves of their dreams.

I was standing on the stage. Daniel and I, were rehearsing part of our responsibility in the whole C-Choir programs of entertainment. We were singing the song Kuch Kuch Hotta Hai, a famous India song. We were standing on the stage. This stage was built on faith and teamwork. It didn’t matter what the scale was, whether it was a small event or a large one, C-Choir members focused on pursuing excellence and perfection in all our performances. We had challenged our dreams. We had challenged the impossible.
